You may not be singing in the rain or dancing in the streets however improved flexibility helps make it easier to perform everyday activities.
Take an extra 10 minutes to stretch your major muscle and tendon groups, allowing 10 – 30 seconds for each stretch. Repeat each stretch three to four times.
The Mayo Clinic recommends these simple tips:
- First, warm up your muscles by walking while gently pumping your arms
- Hold each stretch for 30 seconds
- Don’t bounce… bouncing can tear muscle
- Breathe normally, don’t hold your breath
- Focus on a pain-free stretch, if you feel pain, you’ve gone too far
- Stretch both sides of your body
