Jim founded James M. Morrison Insurance Services, Inc. to provide clients with the highest level of expertise and a hands-on approach to service. He has focused on the employee benefit facet of the insurance industry for over 20 years. He has helped his clients successfully navigate the often difficult, confusing, and challenging field of health insurance through his expertise and high level of service. The majority of new business comes through referrals from existing clients and other professional advisors such as Attorneys, Financial Planners, Human Resource Consultants, and CPA’s.
Jim began his career in the insurance brokerage business in 1989. He became a licensed Broker in 1990 and was promoted to Vice President of a large North County brokerage firm in 1995. During his tenure he was instrumental in developing the agency into one of the top ten employee benefit brokers in San Diego County, as listed by the San Diego Business Journal, based on premium volume. In 2002 he opened Morrison Insurance Services and the firm has been awarded with the Golden Eagle award by the National Association of Health Underwriters seven years in a row. The award is one of the highest honors the association awards to its members.
Jim received a Bachelors of Business Administration degree from the University of San Diego. He has earned the Registered Health Underwriter (RHU), Registered Employee Benefit Consultant (REBC), and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designations from The American College. He has extensive experience in all areas of benefit programs, including dealing with the complexities of multi-state organizations and international benefits. During his career he has served on the Advisory Councils of every major insurance carrier.
He is a member of The San Diego and National Association of Health Underwriters, The Employee Benefit Council, co-founder of the Business Advisory Council, a member and Past President of the North Coast Business Group, a member of the North County Personnel Association, Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, The Better Business Bureau, Lieutenant with the Honorary Deputy Sheriff’s Association, and is the immediate Past President of the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Carlsbad. He resides in Encinitas with his wife Niki, sons Brady and Trevor and daughter Alexandra.

Stacey Buchholtz joined MIS on August 2011. She started her career in the insurance industry in 1988 at Prudential Insurance, where she supported the sales force in writing and selling estate plans, life insurance, and group medical plans. In 1995 Stacey began her career in sales for a General Agency; a wholesaler focused on supporting brokers in implementing employee benefit programs to companies. Stacey is a past President for the San Diego Employee Benefits Council, and is a member of the San Diego Association of Health Underwriters. Stacey has written continuing education classes on how to properly coordinate benefit programs to companies, and she has provided CE credits to hundreds of brokers throughout southern California with her training classes. Stacey is very passionate about the value of what brokers must provide to their clients, including informative options based on individual preferences of the employer and employees, as well as offering continuous support throughout the year. She feels strongly that a solid business relationship is built on accountability, accuracy, and respect. Stacey and her husband Brian have two children; Carli and Evan, and they reside in Carlsbad.

Tom Stafslien is a Marine Corps veteran and retired after 20 years of service. As an artillery officer, Tom deployed twice to Beirut Lebanon, and served as a series and company commander at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. He also served as a Marine attorney and completed tours as defense counsel, chief trial counsel, Staff Judge Advocate for the 1st Force Service Support Group, and Director of Legal Assistance, Camp Pendleton, California.
Tom joined Morrison Insurance in December 2010. Tom’s decision to join the Jim’s company was based on Morrison’s stellar reputation in the Southern California business community. Specifically, the company is extremely well regarded by the businesses it serves, by the insurance carriers whose products it offers, and by its competitors. Jim Morrison has built a company that values trust, offers tremendous value, has a wealth of experience in an extremely dynamic market, and sees customer service as a never ending responsibility.
Tom is a California licensed Accident and Health, Life Only, and Fire and Casualty broker. He was awarded the Health Reform Series Certificate in the Certified Insurance Professional Program, Word and Brown. He is a member of the Wisconsin State Bar, and authorized to practice before the Wisconsin Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court. Tom is a graduate of Drake University, National University, the University of Wisconsin Law School, and the United States Army, Judge Advocate General’s School.
Tom, his wife Joan, and sons Ben and Jonathan reside in Encinitas, California.
